The Cricket on the Hearth

The Cricket on the Hearth is Charles Dickens third Christmas story, written in 1845. It tells the story of the Peerybingle family, whose happy home is disrupted by a mysterious stranger who secretly fuels jealousy between husband and wife, John and Dot. The cricket on their hearth acts as a guardian angel, chirping when things are good and falling silent when sorrow is present.
